How can manufacturers, suppliers, farmers, wholesalers, and retailers all around the world get you your favorite flavor of ice cream, without even knowing what it is?

The price system coordinates the actions of economic actors without the need for any central coordination. Prices convey information throughout the value chain. This information helps producers make the most useful products, and it simultaneously tells consumers what goods they need to economize on. No central planning authority can compete.
