In the aftermath of World War II, the world made a promise: even in our darkest moments, there are lines we will not cross. That promise became the Geneva Conventions - humanity's greatest legal consensus, signed by every nation on Earth.
But today, this promise is under pressure. This video explains that we face over 130 active armed conflicts - twice as many as 15 years ago - and that respect for the rules that protect civilians, the wounded, prisoners of war, and aid workers are under enormous strain.
Over 110 countries have united through the Global Initiative on international humanitarian law, working alongside the ICRC to strengthen political and moral commitment to the rules that limit suffering in war.
The Geneva Conventions do not serve the powerful. They protect the powerless. And upholding them is the responsibility of every country on Earth.
