Before leaving office in 1928, Calvin Coolidge warned of an economic downturn—but he wasn’t predicting the Great Depression. Coolidge believed in fiscal responsibility, saving money, and limited government intervention. He saw the presidency as not a tool for massive economic spending, but a role requiring restraint. Was Coolidge right about the limits of presidential power in managing the economy?
