A growing wave of tech elites — from crypto billionaires to AI pioneers — are suddenly finding God. But is their “return to faith” spiritual awakening, or authoritarian regression?
Something strange is happening in the tech world. People I know — smart, rational, deeply embedded in Silicon Valley — are suddenly converting to Christianity. They’re not doing it quietly, but publicly, even defiantly. Some attend Peter Thiel’s private lectures on the Antichrist. Others frame their retreat from technological optimism as a return to “traditional faith.”
But I don’t see faith here — I see fear and control. This new wave of techno-Christianity is being used to justify hierarchy and authoritarianism, not spiritual awakening. In this essay, I explore why the collapse of scientific materialism left a void of meaning, and how religion and ideology are rushing to fill it.
I believe there’s another path — idealism — the idea that consciousness, not matter, is the foundation of reality. Idealism can bridge what science and spirituality each got partly right, restoring a sense of the sacred without regressing into dogma or nihilism.
