I’ll break down what may be happening behind the scenes, what recruiter ghosting actually means, and what you should do when a recruiter disappears.
Recruiter outreach can feel promising, especially when the recruiter contacted you before you ever applied. But recruiter interest does not always mean the hiring process is as far along as it appears. Hiring priorities can change, managers can shift direction, another candidate can move ahead, a role can be paused, or the recruiter may discover information during the conversation that changes how they view your fit.
I’ll explain how recruiters source candidates, what happens after the initial recruiter conversation, why communication sometimes stops, and how to tell whether it makes sense to follow up or simply move on.
We’ll also cover how long to wait before following up with a recruiter, how many times you should follow up, and why you should never stop your job search just because one recruiter seems interested.
