Porsche’s will-they/won’t-they moment with its electric sports cars seems to be arriving at its conclusion. The word on the street is that the 718 Cayman and Boxster EV projects are about to be canceled.
If that’s true, that means Porsche just flushed a whole lot of dough down the tube, but ultimately, it could make Porsche enthusiasts much happier.
It seems that making an electric sports car that lives up to Porsche’s demanding standards is a lot harder than the automaker expected. Couple that notion with a year-over-year sales decline for EVs in 2025, and Porsche is joining plenty of automakers with a shift in focus.
