Is a 2017 iPad Pro still worth using in a 2025 creator workflow?
Short answer: Yes. Absolutely. But the why might surprise you.
In today’s video, I’m breaking down how my old base 2017 10.5" iPad Pro, yes, the one without the latest iPadOS, without Apple Intelligence, and with only 64GB of storage, still plays a real, valuable role in my content creation setup alongside much newer tech like the iPhone 17 Pro, the M2 MacBook Air, and the M4 Mac Mini.
This iPad was where my YouTube journey started. I filmed everything on my iPhone 11, transferred it to the iPad, and edited every video in LumaFusion. It was my main editing device until file sizes got too big and I moved to Mac.
But even now, this iPad still earns its place.
It’s my idea machine. My note-taking station. My sketchpad. My focused, distraction free workspace.
While I would definitely love a new Apple Silicon iPad, the truth is the iPad still sits in an uncertain place. With so many other devices doing similar jobs, sometimes even better, the question becomes: What is the iPad really supposed to be?
Could we ever see macOS on an iPad? Will Apple ever let this hardware run at its full potential?
Maybe the day Apple answers those questions, is the day I finally upgrade (maybe!)
Until then, the 2017 iPad stays in the workflow.
