Super Mario Odyssey is simply one of the best games I've ever played, and one of the best games ever made. Mario games are almost a genre unto themselves now, and I believe Mario Odyssey is the greatest example of them, a truly perfect Mario game.

But I don't want to just throw around wild, sweeping statements without anything to back it up. It is of course, purely my opinion – but that doesn't mean I can't try and quantify it. To do this, I'm going to go through what I believe are the five tenets of what makes a great Mario game, and explain why I think that in each category, Mario Odyssey is truly, top of the class.
