Larry Carlton reveals the unusual studio conversation that inspired the title of “Red Hot Poker,” a track from his 1993 album Renegade Gentleman.
While the musicians were recording, the conversation turned to record executives telling creative artists what they should—and shouldn’t—record. When it was time to name the track, they removed two words from the phrase they had been discussing.
The result: “Red Hot Poker.”
Then Larry does what only Larry can do—he picks up the guitar and shows you how he plays it.
