Last May Blizzard released Overwatch, and since then, Blizzard has been slowly releasing animated shorts covering broad character points and specific encounters. But even in aggregate, this all provides only a SENSE of who these heroes are, what they’ve accomplished, and their relationships to one another. And so … entrez… the fans. Overwatch has inspired a deluge of fan works–fan fiction, comics, zhaifs, cosplay, and of course: fan art. Lots. AND LOTS of fan art. Which is ... unremarkable for its audience–20 million players as of shooting. What is remarkable... is how SEXY that fan art is, and how large the community of people making, sharing and viewing it is. All of which makes us curious about two things: first, why, specifically, has Overwatch become a massive source of erotic fan works? And second, why, in general, may fans be interested in romantic images of fictional characters? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
