I Build It Scrap Bin | Why Is Canada Going Broke? @IBuildItScrapBin | Uploaded March 2020 | Updated October 2024, 1 day ago.
The way to gear this country's economy to benefit from being right beside the world's largest would be to make it attractive for American businesses to invest here and set up here. You do that not by offering tax breaks, but by having a business environment that attracts business. Low regulation, low taxes, low interference and you reap the reward of all of that capital inflow. Whatever is difficult to do in the US, you make it easy to do here.
That was happening here up until recently, but not to the extent that's needed for major change.
It's not too late, but it'll never change as long as the people have this mindset that the politicians feed off of. It takes one person talking to someone who then talks to someone else to make any progress, and any lasting change in the right direction is worth the effort.
I should also say that Canada IS a great place to live, but it could be SO much better. It's not part of my personal vision to settle for mediocre and I don't think it unreasonable to expect the same from the country I was born in.
