Why is Baelor Targaryen’s hair black? In A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, many fans were confused when they saw a Targaryen prince with dark hair instead of the classic silver Valyrian look.

The reason is simple: Baelor Breakspear inherited his dark hair from his Dornish mother, Princess Myriah Martell, while his father is King Daeron II Targaryen.

Because of his Martell heritage, Baelor looks more Dornish than many other Targaryens, proving that Valyrian silver hair is not always dominant in the Targaryen bloodline.

This detail from George R.R. Martin’s lore also explains why some Targaryens like Jon Snow can have dark hair.

If you love Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and Dunk and Egg, this is a detail you might have missed.
