I’m starting to take a serious look at graded video games as a collectible market — and I think we might still be early.
In this video, I dig into some of the biggest graded video game sales, including vintage Pokémon, Zelda, Mario, and other major franchises, and look at why certain games are commanding incredible prices.
The biggest thing that stands out to me is scarcity. Unlike Pokémon cards, where there are thousands of high-grade examples and a much larger sales history, sealed vintage video games can be genuinely difficult to find in high condition. Most copies were opened and played — which means the population of high-grade sealed games can be surprisingly small.
I’m still researching this market and learning as I go, but there are a few things that make it particularly interesting:
🎮 Massive nostalgia behind franchises like Pokémon, Mario & Zelda
🔒 Extremely limited supply of sealed vintage games
📈 Some games have seen huge price appreciation
💰 Less liquidity and historical sales data than Pokémon cards
🧠 A potentially less saturated collectible market
🕹️ A category where collectors have a deep emotional connection
I’ll also look at some specific sales and compare the graded video game market to the Pokémon card market to see whether there's actually an opportunity here — or if I'm just getting caught up in the hype.
