🏆 Why I Hold Physical Gold
People ask me, “Why not just buy the GLD ETF?”
Simple — I like to have physical possession of my gold.
Deep down, there’s a bit of a prepper in me who wants to be ready for anything.
And the real utility of gold as a safe haven is this:
It carries zero counterparty risk.
Nobody can make a bad decision that compromises the value of the gold sitting in my safe.
But with an ETF? Someone is managing that fund. Someone is issuing those shares. That means counterparty risk exists.
Think about it this way:
Buy Tesla stock — your counterparty risk is Elon Musk doing something reckless that tanks the price.
Hold U.S. dollars — your counterparty risk is the issuer printing more and diluting your purchasing power.
With physical gold, there’s no one between you and your value.
That’s why I take possession.
