For years, I shot almost everything on a 50mm lens. I loved the subject isolation, the compression, and the intimacy it created. But in small offices, conference rooms, and other tight locations, I kept running into the same problem: my 50mm simply wasn’t wide enough.

So I finally decided to test a 35mm lens.

What I discovered wasn’t just a wider shot. The 35mm gave me a new way to create images that stayed intimate while revealing more of the environment around my subject. I started thinking of these as “close-ups with context.”
