It's a long story chronicling how my GAS forced me to constantly adopt a different workflow. I hope my experience can guide you to skip a few steps and save a few bucks along the way.
The TLDW is: you probably don't need a patchbay unless you are planning to use outboard effects.
But I think the story is still interesting enough to share and with some luck it will spark a bit of a discussion about what is the best way to deal with having a lot of crap in your studio (objectively it's "don't buy so much stuff"... but that's not what we like to hear. So let's not even consider that option).
