343 Industries, the creative developer in charge of overseeing the Halo franchise, set an ambitious deadline for their free to play game Halo Infinite. Even returning the series back to its roots and bringing in creator alum Joseph Staten, the studio missed its 2020 deadline, prompting the next-gen console Xbox Series X to launch without its star title.

The Washington Post's video game team Launcher spoke to several 343 Industries developers to get their inside take as to what happened, what went wrong with the graphics and what they're doing to improve going forward.
