The data are clear: freedom works.

People live better in freer jurisdictions. They enjoy longer lives, more tolerant societies, lower levels of corruption, and greater opportunities to pursue full and meaningful personal projects.

Economic freedom—on which human freedom largely depends—creates space for experimentation and innovation, the engines of material progress. By relying on persuasion rather than coercion, this environment encourages people to develop skills that better serve others and to listen attentively to the needs of those around them.

The Human Freedom Index, produced by the Cato Institute in partnership with the Fraser Institute, shows that countries with higher levels of freedom offer their citizens a wider range of opportunities. Freer markets strengthen social cooperation, economic dynamism, and peaceful coexistence.
