📍Fred Astaire, a rhythm come to life
At the age of four, he was taken to dance lessons to become a partner of Adele's sister, although she showed neither the inclination nor the talent. The lessons did have an effect, however, and by the late 1910s the brother and sister were already performing on Broadway (including in Victor Jacobi operettas). The spotlight was still on his sister, who danced only the comic numbers with Fred, while his brother was bored backstage during the romantic parts. It was at this time that he was filmed for his first screen tests, but was never offered a contract.
