Even as net migration drops sharply under Starmer, British public opinion remains deeply sceptical. High gross immigration, record citizenship grants, surging settlements, and significant British emigration tell a more complex story. The visible and everyday consequences of years of mass migration — on housing, public services, wages, culture, and community cohesion — continue to shape attitudes. Until Britain achieves sustained net negative migration and begins reversing the cumulative impacts, these concerns are unlikely to fade.
