In this video, I break down the Elden Ring Iron Armor concept art and explore why it seems to break traditional design rules—yet still works so effectively in the final game.
At first glance, this low-level armor set looks simple, and even a bit technically questionable in places. Some proportions feel off, certain rendering decisions appear rushed, and a few details don’t hold up under close inspection from a concept art perspective.
But despite these issues, the Iron Armor still succeeds where it matters most: clarity, readability, and in-game visual impact.
I go through the design step by step and look at:
How the armor communicates character and function
Where the concept art seems to “bend” or break traditional rules
Why those choices don’t necessarily hurt the final result
What FromSoftware prioritizes in early-game equipment design
How simplification can sometimes be a strength, not a flaw
This is less about calling things “good” or “bad,” and more about understanding how concept art decisions translate into a finished game experience.
If you’re interested in concept art breakdowns, FromSoftware design language, or game art analysis, this video should give you a lot to think about.
