Yamaraja with red eyes, club and a noose in his hands riding on his buffalo walks towards the mortals to take their life to Yamalok and to settle their Karmic accounts. The moment a Jiva-Atma which means the soul wrapped in a mortal body takes birth on the earth, the Yama starts his journey riding on his slow vehicle buffalo to reach him. The soul gets the mortal body for a limited period of time. You have only that amount of time until Yamaraja reaches you. He lived on the earth very piously in his mortal body. Due to this behavior, he was made the Yamaraj. He is the Dikpal, the guardian, of the south as a direction of death and ancestors is south. Although, he is a god, yet he is feared even more than the demons. He waits for none. He spares no one. He is the time, the Kaal.
