It happens over and over. A story breaks that reflects badly on PlayStation, and a wave of games media coverage arrives to soften it, contextualise it, or explain it away. This video is about that pattern, and why the same courtesy rarely gets extended to everyone else.
An opinion piece on games media, PlayStation and the double standard in how platforms get covered.
The core of this video is not that PlayStation should be attacked, it's that everyone should be held to the same standard. When Nintendo has a rough launch, a performance issue or an unpopular decision, the coverage is often swift and brutal. When Sony does something comparable, from the move toward an all-digital future to network outages to consumer-unfriendly decisions, the framing frequently shifts to something far more forgiving. That inconsistency is the problem.
This video walks through why that double standard exists, the incentives that can shape how outlets cover the biggest platform holders, and why it matters for viewers trying to get a straight, honest read on the industry. It's not about tribalism or console wars, it's about consistency, and about media that treats its audience as consumers who deserve the same honesty regardless of which logo is on the box.
None of this is blanket criticism of every outlet or writer, plenty do excellent, even-handed work. But the pattern is real, and it's worth talking about openly. Let me know in the comments whether you've noticed the same thing, and where you think the line sits. Subscribe for more gaming discussion and opinion.

![Splatoon Raiders Review - Better Than It Has Any Right to Be?
Splatoon Raiders is the first standalone spin-off in the Splatoon franchise, and this is my full review after playing through the campaign and endgame on Nintendo Switch 2.
Reviewed on Nintendo Switch 2. Score: [insert score] out of 10.
Splatoon Raiders is a major departure for the series, swapping competitive Turf War and Ranked Battles for a single player focused PvE looter shooter. You play as the Mechanic, crash landed on the Spirhalite Islands alongside Deep Cut, raiding Salmonid held territory for treasure, loot and gear upgrades. It is a bold new direction, and the review digs into how well that gamble pays off across the gameplay loop, the progression, the boss encounters and the substantial endgame content in the Bottomless Buffet.
The review covers the raiding and looting core, how the Exploration Bots and Deep Cut factor into each raid, the depth of the build and gear upgrade systems, the variety across the islands and subterranean areas, the boss fights, and how the game holds up in both solo play and the optional four player co-op. It also touches on performance and presentation on Nintendo Switch 2, and who the game is really for.
Whether you are a longtime Splatoon fan unsure about the spin-off direction, a newcomer curious whether this is a good entry point, or simply weighing up whether it is worth your money, this review covers everything you need to make the call. Let me know in the comments if you are picking it up. Subscribe for more Nintendo Switch 2 reviews and coverage.
