Why Do Waves Occur?
This 1 minute video is a crash course for kids on occurrence of waves in ocean.
Well! Do we know why are there waves on the sea?
Wind blowing across the surface of the water causes the waves.
When we float a table tennis ball in a bowl full of water and blow through a pair of tubes, the surface is stirred up into ripples - the harder we blow the bigger the ripples.
Similarly on the sea the wind drags the water to form waves which slowly move forward and get larger.

Three factors are responsible for the height of a wave.

First, how hard the wind is blowing.

Second, how long the wind has been blowing.

Third, the length of the stretch of open water over which the wind is blowing.
