A question I've been asked a few times on site, is why do these L brackets have long slots for nails to go into, instead of small nail sized holes.

If you are unfamiliar with these brackets, they are to connect internal non load bearing walls to the roof, so that the walls are rigid and won't move. The purpose of these L brackets is for the wall to be locked into the roof, but the roof to still be free to move up/down
