Just a little intro to me/my channel and a rant about why I love teaching you about rocks! Thank you for being here and for being interested in my geology musings and everything in between. :)
And speaking of sharing the wonderful knowledge of our Earth…If you or someone you know is interested in exploring a career in teaching geology, please check out these two WONDERFUL programs offered through the American Museum of Natural History in New York City! These are great opportunities, so if you think you could be the right fit, don’t hesitate to apply.
Teaching Experiences for Undergraduates in New York City (TEU) – This 7-week experience allows participants to take a pedagogy course and teach in a NYC school alongside a mentor teacher. Participants receive a $3500 stipend along with meals and a MetroCard and can obtain college credit for the course. The deadline is February 28th for both the mathematics and science programs. Applications and recommendations may be submitted directly online. We seek applicants who have completed at least 9 credits hours in mathematics or science at a 2- or 4-year college, and for the science program are especially interested in applicants who have studied Earth science. See additional information on our website (https://offices.vassar.edu/teu/).
Master of Arts in Teaching Earth Science Residency Program (ESRP) – The Museum leverages its unique scientific resources and long history of educational leadership to offer this innovative master’s degree program designed and delivered within a natural history museum and with urban partner schools. We prepare residents to teach in high-needs middle and high schools in an intensive 15-month program by combining scientific and pedagogical coursework with real-world teaching experience. Residents receive free tuition and a $30,000 stipend as well as free books and memberships. After graduating, alumni work in high-needs public schools and receive 2 years of funded professional learning and support. See additional information on our website (amnh.org/learn-teach/master-arts-teaching).
