Disney-Pixar’s Win or Lose is one of a few movies and TV shows that notoriously had LGBTQ+ representation suppressed as the political climate in the United States has grown increasingly hostile.
Pixar’s first original series on Disney+ was highly anticipated, but the news that a major transgender character arc and storyline were cut largely overshadowed discussion of the show itself within the animation community.
Which is a shame, because the show is incredible!
In this video essay, I discuss the series, what happened that got us to this point, how big companies like Disney navigate these kinds of decisions, and why this show and the kind of representation we did get is still vitally important.
