We torque-tested four vises to 100 ft-lbs and measured real clamping force. Heuer 160/180 ($1,100) hit 5,144 lbs. Fireball Hardtail Compact ($520) hit 12,100 lbs. Hardtail 510 ($1,610) hit 12,500 lbs. Hardtail 614 ($2,070) hit 13,000 lbs.
Value per 100 lbs of clamping force: Compact $5.20, 614 $6.90, 510 $8.05, Heuer $13.98.
Capacity is a threshold, not a score — pick the vise that fits your part first, then compare value. Going Compact to 614 triples max clamping force (10,000 to 30,000 lbs) for only about 33% more cost per pound of force.

A recent video was sent to me where the Fireball Hardtail 614 was tested against the Heuer 160 Vise. But the problem is that an important test was missed! We need to consider that the maximum clamping force of a Heuer Vise is 7,868 lbs, and the 614 Hardtail is 30,000 lbs. The other thing is that there are more appropriate Fireball vises to test against. Vises like the Compact Hardtail and the 510 Hardtail have maximum clamping forces of 10,000 lbs and 20,000 lbs, respectively. So I see what only 100 pounds of input force give in clamping force, and the results may surprise you!
