As the merry grasshopper undergoes his dry year metamorphosis, and gains the ability to swarm .. and a taste for flesh .. I am happy to find one of the garden's many misunderstood 'pests' at work. Blister beetles - they pose a great hazard to livestock if they find their way into the feed, and are no picnic to pick off by hand, either .. but these little 'pests' hold a secret: their hidden purpose, and why nature has need of them (even if our tomatoes don't!)
