In this interview, I’m joined by author Dan Dockery to discuss I Am The Night: The Ultimate Unauthorized History of Batman: The Animated Series, an upcoming book exploring the creation, legacy, and lasting influence of Batman: The Animated Series.
We talk about why BTAS still resonates decades later, the emotional power of episodes like Baby-Doll and Two-Face, the creative philosophies of directors like Kevin Altieri, Dan Riba, Boyd Kirkland, and Frank Paur, and how the series changed television animation forever.
Dan also shares stories from his interviews with creators including Paul Dini, Alan Burnett, and Eric Radomski, while discussing the forgotten history of 1990s animation, the challenges of writing the book, and why preserving animation history matters now more than ever.
