Recycling wind turbine blades is challenging because they are made of fibres and resin that bond strongly together. The resin is a thermoset, which undergoes a permanent change once it sets, making it impossible to melt and reshape unlike thermoplastics that can be reshaped with heat. The main difficulty in recycling comes from trying to separate the fibre and resin without damaging them, due to the resin's permanent bonding.
