Why are there no observatories on tropical islands? They'd be miles away from light pollution in the middle of the ocean, and I'd be able to live the dream of scuba diving/snorkelling during the day, and collecting scientific data of the night sky at night.
Well you need a few things to collect science worthy data: low light pollution, good weather, low humidity, and thin atmosphere, and sadly tropical islands don't tick all those boxes. Its why our observatories are built on top of remote, arid, mountain tops above the clouds.
