META COURT
Well, Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook is being taken to court by 29 US states. Whether it's endless reels, constant notifications, autoplay videos, or an algorithm you've built brick by brick, experts are saying that lots of kids around the world are finding themselves glued to Facebook and Instagram, and over in the US, parents aren't very happy about it. So much so that 29 US states, led by New Jersey, California, Kentucky, and Colorado, are going head to head with Meta in California's Federal Court, alleging the company deliberately designed its platforms to hook young people and wasn't up-front about the risks. But Meta disagrees. The company's lawyer says that while some people can have problems with how much they use social media, that doesn't necessarily mean they're addicted to it, and a spokesperson for the company stood by its efforts to create stronger protections for teens. If the judge finds Meta guilty, it may have to make some changes to its platforms. And it could be forced to cough up $282 billion AUD! But with the trial expected to last around six weeks, we've got a bit of waiting to do before we know the outcome.
SPACE JUNK LANDS
A SpaceX rocket has been quite the spectacle after it landed in the Indian Ocean! The big hunk of space junk splashed down here in the waters off Christmas Island. And The Australian Space Agency says the Australian government worked with Elon Musk's company, SpaceX, to retrieve it! It's been the talk of the town for locals who headed to the coastline to try and get a good look.
OTTERS STUDY
A new study has found that otters in zoos seem happier when we visit them! Kushi caught up with one of the lead researchers to learn more.
NEW MOON PICS
Now to some new photos of the moon! You might remember we told you about a part of a SpaceX rocket that crashed into the moon a couple of weeks ago. Well, we now finally have some photos from NASA's lunar orbiter, allowing us to see a before and after. It took NASA's spacecraft 6 days to get in the right spot for a photo. That's quite a bit longer than it took South Korea's Danuri spacecraft to do a flyover, which gave us this picture early on. But NASA's photo does seem to have a few more pixels worth of detail, so, that's nice.
GOATS BOARDING BUS
And finally, to a bus stop in the US state of Oregon, where two goats decided to hop on. While it appears to be a novel attempt at fare evasion, it was far from the "Greatest Of All Time", because they got shooed off by other passengers before the bus had a chance to leave. Better luck next time kids.
