Typically, this is what you will find in the first act:
- The world of the story
- The rules of the world
- The protagonist
- The protagonist’s goal
- Our protagonist’s six things that need fixing
- The other characters that embody the A story
- The theme
- The catalyst
- The debate
If you’re a fan of the Beat Sheet- here you cover the beats un until the break in Act 2:
- Opening Image
- Theme Stated
- Set-Up
- Catalyst
- Debate
We have worked through the story circle and the beat sheet already so you have the content and the general structure to guide you through this act. If this is the first video you’re watching from this series, I encourage you to watch the last 3 as we do a deep dive into each element commonly seen in Act 1. Today we’re dreaming up scene ideas that will move our story from fade in to the end of Act 1.
The goal for today is to have between 10 and 15 scenes for your Act 1.
We will eventually cut some of these when we start writing the first draft, but for today- we’ll let our creativity flow and hopefully end up with an Act 1 filled with scene ideas.
