Instead, we're ranking melee specs based on what actually matters when you're spending hundreds of hours on a character: satisfying rotations, engaging gameplay, interesting tier sets, talent diversity, Hero Talent interactions and how enjoyable each spec feels on the 12.1 PTR.

Some specs genuinely surprised me.
Retribution Paladin has one of the most enjoyable tier sets Blizzard has designed in quite some time, Havoc Demon Hunter regains gameplay that many players have been asking to return, and Outlaw Rogue continues to reward mastery with one of the deepest rotations in the game. Enhancement Shaman remains an absolute blast regardless of tuning, while Fury Warrior and Frost Death Knight show just how much good gameplay can sometimes be held back by questionable design decisions.
On the other hand, a few melee specs feel like they're missing that one extra mechanic that would elevate them from "good" to "great," despite receiving new Season 2 tier sets and 12.1 updates.
Whether you're trying to decide what to main in WoW Midnight Season 2, looking for the most fun melee DPS, or you're simply curious how your favorite spec feels after all the PTR changes, hopefully this ranking helps you find a class you'll genuinely enjoy playing.
