This is a logical outcome, as discharge within Earth’s interior follows its own cycles. Periods of rising and falling seismic activity persist, but the intervals between surges are shrinking. What an earthquake of magnitude 6.0 to 6.4 entails. Such events primarily devastate old and weak buildings—structures made of adobe or brick not designed to withstand seismic stress. These buildings often collapse entirely, reduced to piles of rubble. Even stronger buildings develop cracks and experience partial failures in roofs, balconies, and load-bearing walls. Historic city centers with aging infrastructure suffer particularly severe damage. Such earthquakes now occur every other day. This is our new reality. Thousands—tens of thousands—of lives, rich and poor alike, have been lost. These were people who, just yesterday, were making plans for their futures, unaware of the threat that would so abruptly end their lives. Look at these images.
