First of three videos that detail the complex final year of Philip's life. I'll release them across several days. This is my take on the complicated mess.
In this first video, I cover the precipitating events. What would turn out to be Philip's final marriage (to Kleopatra, niece of Attalos); the insult to Alexander (and Olympias) that led them to depart Macedonia; and finally, the marriages that Philip arranged while Alexander was away in Illyria, including Alexander's ill-advised attempt to meddle and insert himself into negotiations with Pixodaros that landed him in the doghouse later.
When looking at all these things, one point becomes crystal clear: we are missing some important parts of the story involving politics at the court in Philip's last year.
