To my calibrated ears the supersonic 9mm appears louder in the full size pistol barrel compared to a compact barrel, but the subsonic 9mm sounds the same.
The 5.7 surprises with the loudest ammo still being as quiet as the subsonic 9mm, and then clearly surpassing the quietest 9mm when subsonic ammunition is used.
