This lecture discusses the underappreciated significance of the portrait of God as hidden in C.S. Lewis's The Last Battle. Rather than appealing to the Deus Incognito of Medieval mysticism (and modern theology), the key to understanding Lewis's book The Last Battle, and underlying many of his apologetic works, is the more orthodox Christian understanding of God not in terms of the via negativa (God is infinite, invisible, incomprehensible, etc.) but rather as a Deus absconditus, a 'hidden' God who reveals himself.
