Desirable white-sand beaches actually come from the poop of parrotfish. The fish bite and scrape corals with their parrot-like beaks, grind up coral skeletons in their guts, and then excrete it as sand. So the next time you unfurl your beach towel down by the shore, think of the sand beneath you. You may be about to comfortably nestle down upon an endless heap of parrotfish poop.
