Horse won’t go forward? In this video, I take you through a real-time training session with Rebel, who’s coming back into work after time off due to mast cell tumours and localised chemo.

His trot at the start is slow, heavy, and lacking energy — and I know I’m not the only one who finds that frustrating. But instead of pushing, I take the time to explain what I do, why I do it, and how I help him build motivation and strength again without losing his trust.

You'll see:
– The slow start and how I let him warm up without nagging
– How I use shallow leg yields to engage the hind leg and shorten the body
– Why I include a short canter to help improve the trot
– What to look for if your horse is tripping or sluggish
– My thoughts on training vs fitness vs motivation and why it matters

If your horse is coming back into work or struggling with energy, this might give you some ideas to help.
