So if the stator was so carved up then how did it get any spark, or run at all?
Here's the thing, that stator (like everything on the DRZ) is a trooper,
and despite the damage it managed to output a semi-regular spark.
Enough to run, but way too inconsistent to run well.
In the end it just got too chewed up from all the grinding and couldn't produce any spark at all.
