While we often learn about the fertile crescent of Mesopotamia as the birthplace of agriculture, we are often denied a more nuanced description of the history of agriculture. Many other parts of the world developed agriculture completely interpedently and West Africa quite literally had its own "Fertile Crescent" which spanned the crescent shaped Niger River.
