You don’t have to endure everything.

The ancient Stoics were tough, but they had their limits, too. Epictetus gave a simple example, saying: “If there’s a bit of smoke in the house, I stay. If it gets too much… I leave.”

Not everything needs to be tolerated at all costs. Toxic family. Corrupt systems. People you simply can’t stand. When a situation becomes unbearable, it’s fine to walk away.

As Epictetus himself concluded, dealing with toxic people: If someone is so obnoxious that you can’t stand being around them, why stay? It’s a waste of time.
