How do we start healing when grief still clings so tightly?
Grief (الحزن) is part of loving and losing. However, when it goes unspoken, it can quietly settle into the heart and shape how we carry ourselves and our relationship with Allah. But when we acknowledge it and bring it to Him, it can soften the heart and become a path back to healing.
In Episode 3, Dr. Rania Awaad guides us through the rough terrain of what we call grief. She invites us to feel it as opposed to suppressing it, drawing from revelation, Islamic psychology, and the rich scholarly tradition of our faith to help us cope.
At Maristan, we believe emotional awareness is part of spiritual growth. This Ramadan, join us as we rediscover the wisdom within our emotions and learn how to transform them through faith and reflection.
While this series explores the inner life of the heart, Maristan continues to expand its commitment to prevention through education. This Ramadan, we are raising $200,000 to develop and deliver four nationwide trainings rooted in Islamic psychology and informed by research from the Stanford Muslim Mental Health & Psychology Lab. These trainings strengthen the newly launched Maristan Academy and equip our communities with knowledge, clarity, and resilience.

![Reflections on Success and Failure | Ep. 14 | From Tafakkur to Transformation
Reflecting on success and failure in a contemplative context means seeing both as opportunities to deepen our understanding of Allah’s will. Success is not solely defined by worldly achievements or recognition; it is about fulfilling our purpose and living in accordance with Allah’s commands. Failure, on the other hand, is not a setback, but a lesson that Allah uses to purify us and draw us closer to Him.
In this episode, Dr. Rania Awaad explores the importance of tafakkur in shaping our perspective on moments of failure or difficulty. Rather than allowing these moments to hold us back, we should view them as opportunities for growth and ease, as promised by Allah when He tells us, for indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. (Quran, 94:5-6)
