This hatchling came from a nest on Gili Trawangan, rescued and released by the Gili Eco Trust Trust and Proyek Penyu Gili - and that first crawl to the water matters more than it looks:
🔹Within minutes of hatching, sea turtles imprint on their home beach - a memory they’ll use to return here decades later to nest themselves.
🔹They’re also racing against time: the yolk sac still attached to them holds just enough energy to reach open water, where they’ll spend their first years growing and drifting with the ocean currents.
🔹And reaching the water matters for another reason: only in the open ocean do they learn to swim, dive, and forage for themselves.
