When groups of armed people, who used to claim they were against the government or “the system,” suddenly start supporting a leader and acting like an organized force—wearing uniforms, marching with torches, and carrying symbols of loyalty to that leader—things are about to take a dangerous turn.
If these unofficial groups (paramilitary forces) and the official police or military start working together or blending in with each other, it’s a strong sign that democracy is collapsing. This intermingling means the system is being taken over by authoritarian forces, and resistance to this shift becomes much harder. It signals the rise of a dictatorship or oppressive regime. Pay attention.
