Eddie Van Halen really had a knack for crafting parts that were simple on the surface but full of feel, and "When It’s Love" is a perfect example of that. Deceptively simple, but carrying a huge amount of the song's emotional weight, the repetitive, heartbeat-like rhythm of this piano part gives Sammy room to sing over it while providing a supportive anchor that elevates the song. I've always loved the subtle thickening synth layering under the piano that locked the song firmly into that polished, late-80s sheen. It's not "Jump", but more about groove, touch, and taste, and I'm grateful to Can't Drive 55 for giving me a chance to work on this one!
