​​​​Jesse was raised to believe that being gay was wrong. He even participated in a conversion therapy program, a practice that has no support from any mainstream mental health professional organization, including the American Psychological Association. After a long internal struggle, Jesse came to a conclusion: “I’d rather be hated for who I am, than loved for what I’m not.” Jesse made a promise to live an authentic life where he no longer has to apologize for who he is. Because of his decision, Jesse was disowned by his father and he found himself homeless, with all of his belongings in his car.
