The Bible makes it very clear that God wants His people to be people who spend much time in prayer. We are instructed to “pray without ceasing” and “that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.”
But did you know that there are also times when God says NOT to pray?
The Bible tells us of a time when Joshua was praying for the children of Israel, and God told him to STOP praying! The reason? The children of Israel had committed a trespass, and had taken of the accursed things, and there was sin in the camp. Prayer was not what was needed — repentance was needed!
God will not listen to our prayers while we are living in rebellion to Him.
“Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” Isaiah 59:1-2
I tell you, there is sin — abundant sin — in the camp of God’s people today! We have taken of the accursed things, and until we get the accursed things out of the camp, we will NOT prosper but will continue to sink down lower and lower.
In the time of Joshua, they dealt with the sin in the camp, and got it OUT of the camp — and God blessed them. What will we do? Will we deal with the sin in the camp? or will we continue praying futile prayers that will not be heard?
